Sustainability Declaration NewsNew sustainability declaration for home sellers came into effect January 1 2010.All sellers of residential property are now required to provide the document. What you have to love is the way government can make the simplest thing so damn complicated. After plenty of stick about been hard for home-owners to complete the form the department has now released a guide to help. All 8 pages of it! Anyone selling a home in Queensland will have to provide a Sustainability Declaration form. The document contains questions about a property's water and energy use. Building Codes Queensland (BCQ) executive director Glen Brumby says people who do not fill out the form will be issued with hefty fines from March. "The maximum penalty is $2,000 for a seller and up to $10,000 for an agent," he said. "However the government has announced a grace period until the first of March while they bed down the first forms so no on-the-spot fines will apply until March at least."
